Yves Bellinghausen

About

Yves Bellinghausen is an author and speaker based in Leipzig, Germany. His work is about artificial intelligence and the people around it: those who build it, those who believe in it, and the rest of us who will have to live with it. He writes long-form nonfiction in German and co-authors and hosts podcasts.

In 2024 he spent two months in Silicon Valley as a Kellen Fellow of the American Council on Germany, among AI labs, start-ups, hackathons and Stanford classrooms. In 2026 he was in residence at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, one of Europe’s leading institutes for social research, working on the question of how artificial intelligence is changing the way we work.

Recurring questions in his work: What do the people building AI actually believe? What happens to work and expertise when machines can do our jobs? Could algorithms govern a society, and would we notice? And why does new technology, from Bitcoin to AI, so often attract something close to religious faith?

He studied political science and philosophy in Marburg, Frankfurt, Stellenbosch and Madrid and holds a master’s degree in philosophy. His work has received several awards, among them the German Podcast Award and the Ernst Schneider Prize.
